If you’re a cat owner, then chances are that you probably have at least one bag of kitty litter lying somewhere around the house. Yes, that’s right, the secret to a clear windshield starts with a fresh scoop of litter that would normally be meant for your cat’s private duties.

The rest of the items that you’ll need are probably already lying around the house as well. After you collect your scoop of fresh litter, simply gather up two old socks and a roll of tape in order to get started.

Any type of kitty litter will work for this hack, but for the best results, choose a silica-based brand if possible. You may already know that silica is extremely absorbent, which makes it a key ingredient behind this simple trick.

Once you have all of your materials together, pull one of the socks through the roll of tape and cuff it over the top of the roll. The tape is merely used to help hold the sock open, so don’t worry, you’ll be able to use the tape again after this. Next, simply add your scoop of kitty litter directly into the sock, being careful not to spill any over the sides. Once you’re done, make sure to tie the sock off in order to prevent any unwanted messes.

After you have the first sock tied off, pull the second sock right over the top of it for an extra layer of protection. Finally, tie the second sock into a knot as well, and you’re simple winter project has already been completed.

All you have left to do now is to place the pouch full of kitty litter onto your dashboard, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly the moisture disappears!

You can store the pouch in your glove compartment or even underneath your seat whenever you don’t need it, but next time there’s some overnight frost on the way, just place it right back on the middle of your dashboard.

The best part of this life hack? It’s incredibly inexpensive, and it can really come in handy when it comes to saving you some extra time on your morning commute this winter.

Can you believe that something so simple can be so effective? Try it for yourself next time the winter months come along, and see how much money you might be able to save on all of those cold weather accessories for your car!
